No, a firmware update should

No, a firmware update should not affect the hard drive. When you are upgrading the firmware, bascially what you are doing is you first erase the data on the firmware chip then rewrite it with new information but it really doesn't have anything to do with the hard drive.

However you are saying you have a beige, when you are talking about upda5ting the firmware, are you referring to replacing your rom chip? (i didn't know that there were firmware updates for the beige series).

No it won't. My previous comp

No it won't. My previous computer was a beige G3 with the last ROM and OSX just wouldn't work without being on that miserable 8gb partition. The only way you're going to get rid of it is to update to a newer computer.

no

firmware, only hardware ROM, and thus cannot be updated. Well, there are several ROM versions, but all are similarly afflicted with the 8GB boot partition limit on their onboard ATA busses. The SCSI bus does not have this limit, nor would drives attached to an appropriate PCI adapter.
