Wondering if there is any way to download a single topic/thread from a forum for offline viewing? Some of these really interesting ones run into hundreds of posts that span multiple pages. I'd like to be able to read/review when I'm away from the internet but still have my laptop.
On a semi-related note, I also haven't figured out how to use the search function very effectively. If it finds a word or phrase in a very long topic, you get no indication which page to look on.
It may sound a bit old-school but it seems like "printing" the thread as a PDF could be a workable solution -- the formatting doesn't get screwed up (at least not too much) and it remains readable.
Drupal's search function is admittedly not the best. I'm not sure what options we have there.
Printing to a PDF (I assume you mean through my browser's print function) only prints the current page of the thread. For example, "The Dan ][ SD card disk controller" thread has 10 pages and almost 500 comments so I would wind up with 10 different PDF's. Not unworkable but tedious.
Depending on the browser you can also save a current page as a webarchive. This is a file that contains the whole page and you can open it lateron with the browser locally.
