Bizarre - ?

So, yesterday I tried too boot up one of my IIe systems and it would not boot at all. Zero activity. I thought the PS was toast. But after some investigation, it seems it would boot if I remove the floppy drive. I tried another floppy, but the exact same thing happened. In both cases the PS would simply not start if either or both floppies were attached. Fine with just the controller, or with one of those tiny floppy emulators attached, but not with a real drive. I thought that my drives might have gotten damaged, so I put them aside until today to do soem sleuthing. However, I found both were fine on another machine.

So, despite what Einstein said about insanity, I tired the drives back on the machine that had a problem - and - no problem! They work just honky-dory today. Same drives, same machine same controller.

Sigh. I think both me and the machine are getting old...

Happy holidays everyone and have a great New Year!

Good contact/socket and head cleaning might fix you up.

Cleaning the drives will not help a power problem.

Likely your power supply is getting weak due to old capacitors. I would recap it before it dies completely...
