This looks really cool, thanks for sharing this! I've had a quick look so far, that keyboard adapter is so unusual! The apple is bitten off in the shape of Steve Jobs' profile! Very cool!!! I'm definitely going to try to put this together.
In the photo for this project on GitHub I saw you have a small speaker attached to the board. Is it a finished product, can I buy it somewhere? Thanks in advance!
Looks nice. I'm glad you did the AE Timemaster H.O. card. They are getting hard to find now. But why such a large battery box?
The circuit board is intended for the original VARTA battery. However, this battery is quite expensive and tends to leak acid if it is not charged properly. The charge controller of the TimeMaster only consists of a resistor and a diode and should be improved in my opinion. In my case, I decided to use three Energizer lithium cells and omitted the resistor for charging. This works very well and can be reversed at any time.

I'm not sure where you are located but Interstate Batteries sells this very replacement inexpensively. I bought one 4-5 years ago for my TM2. See photo.
Thanks for the info, I just couldn't figure out where that speaker came from, so well placed on the board. Now after your tip I'll look for something similar on aliexpress. I've had some trouble paying for and receiving packages from everywhere but aliexpress for a couple years now. Well I wish you the best of luck with future projects Thanks for sharing!
I see their Varta equivalent, although NiMi, isn't sold by them any more but Varta NiMi equivalents are available from a number of other sources in the US for around $10 US. My original Varta never leaked acid and although originally they were NiCads, my NiMi has charged just fine for the past 4-6 years or so.
I'd be interested to know more about jeff-d's experience.
