i have this orignal iMac (teal colour) and when i unplug the monitor cable from the motherboard, it doesnt turn on... how can i turn the moniter while the video cord is not plug in?
the reason for this is that my monitor on the G3 is bad, so the only other monitor i have is the one built into the iMac. but when i plug the moniter cable into the G3 it doesnt turn on.
the iMac turns on, i hear the hard drive working, and i hear the mac chime. but with the video cord unpluged the moniter doesnt turn on. I've concluded that the moniter does get power, but i need to somehow switch it on, while its video cord is not plug into the imac motherboard
So has anyone successfully done this before?
You can't.
please, there is a way, maybe just a matter to connecting 2 wires, like a switch, or like a button on your monitor.
hopfully someone out there has figured it out.
Try connecting a cable to the motherboard and another one to the monitor. You might fool the iMac into thinking the monitor's attached. ::)
connect a VGA to DB15 (mac vga) adaptor to the imac, and then connect the monitor's cable to the other comp. boot both simultaneously. the imac wil think it has a screen and will provide power to it.
