two monitors on a 7100/G3

i have a 7100/66 with the maxpower g3 upgrade w/ the video card. i was wondering about monitor expanding/wrap around. or does the nubus only allow video mirroring. if i install another nubus video card can i have the extended desktop?

oh, and for the vram upgrasding for the video card that came with the G3 card, i think i have found a place that has the simms(or whatever) but...could i have the specs in order to make sure.

You can use a nubus video car

You can use a nubus video card for an expanded desktop, Or even three nubus video cards for a total of 4 monitors if you want.

Don't forget the built-in HDI-45 video adapter as well!

So make that five monitors total!

When using the MAXpowr G3 PDS

When using the MAXpowr G3 PDS, the PDS video card is stuck into a PDS adapter that fits into the second NuBus slot with a dummy NuBus plug and a flex cable to the G3 card. The upgraded 7100/G3 is limited to two more NuBus cards, the PDS,and the stock HDI-45, which is only four unless you get dual monitor NuBus cards (were any made?). Acute

Unless you take advantage of the flexible cable and mount the PDS card at a 90 degree angle above the rest. Then you either need to leave the cover off or hack a little raised area to cover the card.

Oh what do they call those hood bulges when they have to raise a portion of the car's hood to fit a bigger engine or some added component? Anyway, that's what you need Wink

The hood bulge on a car is called a scoop.

And it would be very tricky to secure a horizontally mounted PDS video card so that it would stay steady enough to push a monitor connector onto it.

Mount the cable . . .

. . . or a VGA adapter securely to the backplane first . . . use the holddown screws on it to mount/suspend the HPV/AV card on its flex cable adapter and use a plastic brace or two for stress relief.

naw not a scoop, I'm talking about when part of the hood is raised, not an opening. Auto makers tend to add it these days to cars (particularly the little sh*itty go-kart kind of the us and foreign varieties) when its not needed - things are purposely positioned so the bulge (guess that's all it called) has to be put in to give a look of "performance". I can remember a friend who was particularly unhappy with his Doge Neon telling me he refused to buy the "Sport" model because Dodge included what they called the "powerbuldge" which was offensive in more ways than one. The Corvette Stingray sticks in my mind as a prime example. I doubt it was the first car to incorporate the idea, but maybe it was that it was the largest (at least at that time). Almost the whole hood was raised to fit the bigger engine.

Its not tricky to secure the card. I did it and people on this board are far braver than me when it coms to hacking and case mods. That was my kindergarden-esque contribution to applefritter hacks. I never did anything with the case because I moved onto another Nubus PPC. If you forget the unique but limited "hood bulge" idea for the 7100 and raised the whole metal portion of the case you could probably fit in another drive or two. Several ways to go about that...

I'm I maybe slow, but how the heck is a "powerbuldge" supposed to be "offensive"?

They usually put the hood buldges to allow for turbos and/or intercoolers to fit under the engine compartment. And I have never heard of a powerbuldge being considered offensive. Man, its just a name anyway.

Sorry for the threadjacking, the statement just intrigued me.
