Hi all,
I have always enjoyed reading the hardware discussions here in the forum, but I am interestied in finding out how many of you collect Apple II and IIgs software. I am not talking about the readily available downloadable disk images, but the orginal software complete in the box. My personal collection of orginal software complete in the box is currently around 156 titles. A modest collection compared to a few collectors I know.
Some of what I have were purchased new by me back in the 1980's. The rest came from buying apple computers from individuals that included some original software and a few titles from Ebay when the price was within reason. To my surprise I have had only five programs that did not work due to media degradation.
Part of the fun for me in collecting the old software, besides having the original content, is breaking it to have clean non-copy protected copies....thanks to the folks that made computist magazine available online. Of course I also use the software.

I'm not a software collector, but I am interested in the games that floated around my high school in the 80s. I bought my first physical media on eBay last year - Olympic Decathlon - but the media was bad. Batting 0.000 so far!
Check out the "Ye Olde Infocomme Shoppe" at http://yois.if-legends.org/ . That guy has a lot of old original software. I bought something from him once, and the transaction worked out very well.
Hi,
All your bad disk replacements are on the way except the one and the pass thur terminator. Should get it in a couple of days. First Class was on only $0.20 more than media mail. Lets hope the pass thur terminator lets you use the Zip cart with the HD. So you can D/L and transfer the disk images.
Take Care
Hi,
I wish I still had all the software I used to, since I had been buying since originally getting into the Apple II in 1980. Unfortunately when my GS died 6 years ago I thought I was done with the Apple II, so I tossed all my software along with the computer. Since getting back into the Apple II, a little over 3 years ago, I have bought about a dozen Apple II games, through eBay and YOIF shoppe.

Jim and all,
I am not sure exactly how many software titles I have right now. I can guess well over 200 (including games, utilities, operating system disks, applications, and add-ons).
This covers all the Apple II systems and some that are multiple system capable (Apple II / Commodore 64/128). A lot of the SSI tactical games and Sir-Tech (multiple copies).
Most I bought new when I bought my IIc in 1983, but I've been going up to ebay and other places to expand my collection. When I finally make the time to sit down and play some the newer ones it will be just like old times.
gsmcten and all...
Twilight_Rodent: Thanks for sending the pass through terminator. Will give you a call when it arrives.
The old games still hold their charm for me. I just started Infocom's Suspect...the folks at Infocom could sure tell a story and the "feelies" they included were great. Gamcten you mentioned SSI, I loved their software. They put out well over fifty titles for the Apple II and I snap up any I can get that are complete in the box.
Magnusfalkirk you are not alone in a lack of foresight When I retired my GS and IIc to storage in the attic in 1993 a friend asked if I wanted to get rid of my software. I gave him about two thirds of what I had. Wish now that I had kept them, but like you I did not think I would be using the Apples again.
Dave that had to be fustrating...your first purchase and the disk is shot! I have been lucky so far, but I realize that collecting the old software means some disk failures along the way. I had two in a row from Ebay that failed. One had corrupted key files and the other had mould on the disk and box contents...must have been stored in a damp basement.
Twilight_Rodent has one of the largest original Apple software collections of the collectors I know. I plan on catch up to him if I don't go broke
