Nasty problem with CDROM and PowerBook

I have a PowerBook 540c but it has a PowerPC upgrade. Anyway the problem is long and complicated, and I have already posted it on 68kmla, so I will just link to that thread:

Do you have your SCSI IDs in order, and is the termination correct? The PB doesn't supply term power, IIRC, so the drive will have to.

Yes the termination is correc

Yes the termination is correct. The drive does supply termination power and I also have an active terminator on the unused SCSI port on the drive. It's ID is 4. Keep in mind this is an external drive.

looks to me . . .

like a problem where the CD drive isn't reading the disk properly. Dirty drive lens, scratched disk, that sort of thing. Have you tried other disks and/or drives?
