itunes help!!

I am not very computer literate, so this may seem simple to many. I have added itunes to my desktop. I have downloaded a song. It is an mp4 or mpeg4, I'm not sure. I want these songs to download as mp3s only. How do I do that? and I need it in simple language, please!!!

iTunes uses m4p files instead of mp3. This is so that they can only run on the computer you downloaded it to. It contains some sort of encryption. Try using it on another Mac without verifying it online and it won't open.

I guess we should qualify that a bit further to say that the iTunes Music Store uses mp4 or AAC for downloaded content. iTunes can use mp3 files just fine. If you want you files to be in MP3 format, burn an audio CD of them (not an MP3 CD) and re-rip that into MP3 files.
