So I finally got my clear Apple IIe case from MacEffects that I ordered a year ago and I have to say it was well worth the wait!!!
The Apple IIe is my absolute favaorite computer and my Parents paid for 1/2 of one while I was still in college and I paid for the other half.
So I was in a dellima when it was coming. Do I put toegether a stock Apple IIe or do I max it out a bit?
I decided on the latter. So here it is....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has an Apple IIe Platimnum motherboard made in the 4th week of 1990.
Slot 1 : Uthernet II Ethernet Card
Slot 2: Nothing yet
Slot 3: John Brook's VidHD Video Card
Slot 4: Will soon Have my Microsoft Z80 Card as soon as I can find it. :-)
Slot 5: LiRon 3.5" Controller Card
Slot 6: Apple 5.25" Controller Card with DB-19 connector
Slot 7: Rich Dreher's CFFA 3000 Card
Aux: Garret's Workshop 8MB RAM Card for the Apple IIe
Manila Gears No Slot Clock
Also, I removed the Red power LED on the motherboard and put a bright Yellow LED there and also removed the light from the keyboard and put a bright blue LED.
I just backed the MacEffects Chrome plated keyboard and when it comes, the old IIe keyboard that is in there now gets replaced.
Thanks,
Jay
That looks pretty awesome!
Now I'm really bummed he wasn't able to reach his goal on the II/II plus case. That looks awesome...
My guess is that there are not that many II+ owners in the ecosystem.
I would have bought one back then to house my clone II+ if I could find a base pan for it.
And I did back the kickstarter myself, but sadly it didn't garner enough support. Doing a IIe clear case makes a lot more sense from a market penetration point of view.
In the end I'm glad I bought my IIe clear case. It's a great conversation piece and has seen 24-7 use for the past 4 months as a BBS (telnet to thebrewery.servebeer.com:6400)
Card compliment:
Aux: Garrett's Workshop's 8 MB RAM
Slot 2: Apple Super Serial Card (and Wimodem-232)
Slot 3: A2Heaven's Fastchip IIe
Slot 5: ReActive Micro's MicroDrive/Turbo
Slot 7: A2 Heaven's VGA Scaler
The Brewery BBS platform
What do you think about electromagnetic interference (EMI), also called radio-frequency interference (RFI)?
I haven't noticed any ill effects from RFI using my clear case.
There's very little RFI emitted by the IIe or its power supply (which is shielded and grounded), and there isn't much RFI being generated by other devices nearby. And I don't have any CRTs in the area.
A few cell towers in the vicinity, but they're not causing any IIe issues.
