So I'm sitting on a stock of Apple II parts here and was debating whether to sell or keep as parts.
I threw up my second Rev 04 board (black slots) but didn't get any bites and then the day before the auction ended I pulled it. I've not seen too many with the black slots so the collector in me kicked in.
I also bought a keyboard from transwarp on ebay. 16 keys had been broken off but everything else was working, I was going to use its encoder to replace what I thought was a dead encoder on my II+. Turns out I was able to bring the encoder back to life. And, using this awesome Quick Grip adhesive, I was actually able to repair all the broken keys and after sitting all night the thing operates perfectly! (I've attached a post repair pic)
Finally I have an integer ROM card I opportunistically pounced on on ebay. I had already bought another one from dorkbert, but this one was 'mislabelled' and did not attract much interest. I got it for $76 and the ROMs work.
So I'm thinking now I want to build an 'early' Apple II+ from what I have. I just need a case. If anyone knows where I might find one with a suitably low serial number (I don't know exactly when they stopped using Rev 04s in the II+... anyone know roughly? I'd be grateful.
I'm glad to see you got the keyboard fixed! I believe I have an early Apple II plus case; one with the green label that's the same size as the black & white labels from the early apple II's.
I would have to go find it though. Does $10 sound like too much for it? I can go lower let me know.
Oh $10 is more than fair.. yes if you have one I will buy from you. I will also have to get a power supply somewhere too. And a keycap for the missing 6 key. I think I have a strategy figured out to repair the broken key stalk on that. That was pretty impressive that all those keys were broken!
I had so much fun re creating an original II from the parts I had... figure itd be fun to ressurect a II+.
Oh and on the subject to original IIs.. I am still looking for keyswitches for my Rev 1 A2S1 keyboard.. if anyone has em I will buy. Needabout 6.
I'll contact you through ebay in the next few days. BTW are you looking for datanetics key switches?
Thanks muchly! I think they are datanetics? Its the single piece keyboard.. brown pcb.. slightly angled keystalks?
