J21 'GAME' Socket.jpg | 236.84 KB |
Hello everyone,
Just having a spring clean of my IIGS and I (re)noticed a socket that isn't inhabited by any chip.
It's J21, between the 8 Fast RAM Chips and the Expansion slots, is white in colour and marked 'GAME'.
Anybody have any idea what this is?
Regards
Alex
It's for the old-style joystick or paddles with a 16-pin DIP connector. Note that it's orientation is opposite that of the original Apple II implementation for those that are familiar with it.
Confusion averted, Thank you very much!
It's the game port, which can also be used to control lamps, relays, motors, and other cool things, all controllable by software running on the Apple II. Or in other words, you can build your own robot.
