Dear folks,
I'm looking to find some manual describing the function and set-up of an Apple IEEE-488 Interface card.
I searched the internet already but didn't find a PDF of such a manual.
Any help will be appreciated.
Many thanks and have a nice weekend
Torsten aka tokabln
Hello tokabln,

Hi speedyG,
thanks for your offer... I just PM'ed you.
Have fun...
Torsten aka tokabln
I scanned the manual and converted it tp PDF-File.
I uploaded it to ftp.gno.org.
It will take several days till it is available to public download.

Do you think you could send it to asimov? There's a wider audience there. And I'm not sure where to look on ftp.gno.org, every folder looks empty?
Hi Keatah,
please take a look here:
ftp://ftp.gno.org/pub/apple2/
The folders are not empty... but the file isn't available yet as mentioned by speedyg.
@speedyg: many thanks for scanning the doc.
like i mentioned:
there is a delay between upload and granting access to the public,
the admin first checks that there was no crap uploaded....
second:
there is a change in policy:
few years ago you had to upload to each site single...
now:
acts as the reciever for ALL appleII stuff and then it will be redirected
to the relevant site ( in this case Apple documentation Center....as target for manuals, books, datasheets )
( maybe also asimov ) the target is to reduce double downloads from different sites...
speedyG
Ohh..
Hello AF-members,
as temporary solution till the manual is availiable as public download,
i decided to offer the manual as download from the temporary dir of
my site for the next 2 weeks till end of Sept/2017:

Hi speedyG, I have recently acquired this Apple interface card. I downloaded your pdf manual, but it is in German. Do you have a link to it in English, by any chance? Thank you for your help.
Hello to all,
I also acquired an Apple II IEEE-4888 card, can someone kindly send me a copy of the manual in pdf format? Thanks everyone in advance ...
Unfortunately it is my understanding that you most likely won't get a response from speedyG due to his reported untimely departure from our plane of existance. May he rest in peace. Hopefully someone else can help you with a translation or a copy of the manual in English.
I always wanted to get one of those IEEE cards and try hooking up a Commodore 8250 dual floppy drive to an Apple II. Unfortunately the drive amd evem the card go for stupid money these days.
I would recomment to contact the threadowner of the following link as he's having an englisch version of the manual:

Just fyi. Not my video.
But somebody connected a hp floppy up to a apple iie.

I don't see why not. I just want to know what rom chip he changed on the card too. But from my understanding. (with a few exceptions) all IEE-488 deviecs are compatible. On a side note. The reason for this reply. Back in the day the local university was auctioning off the old hp disk packs drives. So a professer purchased one and connected it to a PC (ibm clone.) from my understanding. He just had to write the driver for it. Instant 5mb disk packs for your pc. :)

Josh
Yeah, I would love to see the ROM code for the IEEE-488 card! I have a burner that can handle the common 2716-27512 type EPROMs.
If you still need a copy of the manual, I'd be willing to scan the German copy, translate it to English, and put together a Word & PDF document of it including the graphics. I'd try to make it look as much as the origincal scan as possible. I'm retired, and I'm about to have a contractor here to remodel part of my house. So I need to be here while he/they are here working, and I could use a project to complete.
Let me know if you are interested.
I'd love to see a scan of the manual.
Hi All,
Gottj, That sounds like an enormous amount of work. But I think I can get you off the hook. Unless you want to translate it ;)
I bought some stuff in a private sale and it included the card and manual. I was beyond stoked. Its in English and in reasonably good condition. I can scan it this week.
Also I got in touch with a well known ROM whisperer in this forum and he said he can look at dumping the ROM chip from the card. (Thanks Dean)
So my question is, where can I upload it that would suit folks. I'm going to Color scan to PDF at 600 DPI. Its about 90 pages. If another format is preferred for this let me know.
Cheers
Dave
That sounds like a better plan than mine. I don't personally need a copy, I was just seeking to help someone while keeping myself busy during construction.
Thank you!
Thanks! You can upload at https://www.applefritter.com/file/add. If you run into any trouble, just message me.
Ok guys,
Here it is. File size is a bit large due to 600DPI, but I reckon its manageable. I wasnt happy with the flatbed scanner version because of spiral binding lifting pages off platten.
The schematic had particularly fine detail and wanted that readable and ended up doing it with a DSLR. This too has some reflection issues which I will remedy in the future and repost some time.

Here is a schematic I derived from PTB's scans. Far from perfect but should create a decent readable print.

And Here is the ROM Dump for the IEEE-488 card.
I got the card to Dean during the week and he dumped the ROM and returned the card. Thanks for that.
So the curious part of me wants to know, how do you guys see what a ROM is going to do?
Is there an editor or software or something you guys use to view these things? Inquiring minds want to know.
Cheers
Dave
I wrote a 65C02 disassembler a while back. I will use it to look at the code from that EPROM image.
I bought one of these cards off eBay recently, but it is coming from the EU so it will probably take forever and a day to get here having to go through customs, etc.
Thanks for making this available in a simple no-nonsense location that is immediately and easily accessible. No runaround. No excuses. No "beating around the bush" with certain hard-to-find locations or time limits or stipulations.
