UltimateApple2 successfully cloned off this card and had a small production run a few years ago. Anthony might make another batch if enough people asked.
That seller has sold many of those cards. He used to sell them for $450.00 but has raised the price.

Now I posted this on Facebook. But I think it is laughable. I think a new era is emerging. But it will be short lived. Software being graded like coins. These are in display boxes and graded gold. The color and number of points system. I was playing around looking up Apple II items in a lot of different ways than I usually do. When I ran across these.

Wonder how much it cost to grade? Who does it and how? Or is it all made up by some one who would like more $$$.
I posted this knowing this was a way to try and get more $$$$ from any one. Suppose to be a way for investing ? There are better ways. But if you can not enjoy the program on the screen, what is the point? It is nothing like a coin or a baseball card. Where you can see it, and that is all you can do with it ? Even the with a Comic book you can take it to read. So this person is basing everything on the outside of the package? Does not know if it works or not? Better to get an ad out of a magazine and stare at it. The only thing this does is it tries to raise the price of Apple II items. It reenforces the IDEA that Apple II software is good investment to those that have crossed over to the investor side. I know a few of them. It seems that a sure sign that one has crossed that line is they are longer interested in helping any one with there Apple II problems. Just what their Apple II stuff is worth, what they can pick up cheap to resell later. Now I have be guilty of the last part sort of. Sometimes I will get something for free or find it on a buy it now CHEAP. But sometimes I give back to the community also.
You missed This One as well. Been a rash of extremely expensive asking price software released (just check out Cheribly's listing) with software being offered at $2000 and $3000, but the graded software you mention I have seen several times in the past.
If it was an original copy signed by Lord British himself perhaps being sealed would make sense. Less expensive games sealed i can see people wanting a "collection" (some of the old software has awesome graphics/designs/artwork on the packaging)
Beyond that? I'd have to agree with you. I understand people collect just about anything, but never thought of software in the context of grading the package. The value of the software, sure. But the packaging? Dunno.

Did not miss that one, but the copy and paste with FB did not catch that one. As for the $$$$ high priced software listings. Yes I have seen them for years if not decades. I was friends with some of these listers until they crossed over to strictly investing.

It has a case serial number in the 33000 range.
Wouldn't this place it somewhere in early 1978 frame?
The motherboard is a 7944 board.
That seems to mean it's a II Plus board.
Am I incorrect?

My original APple II s/n 3283 was the 35th week of 78 for the Rev 0 mobo. My current one s/n 2006 is the 22nd week of 78. 33k serial would not likely have been made in 78 so a '79 date seem s correct.
As to whether or not it's been for sale before I cannot say.

35000 = mid-1980, so 33000 in late '79 seems consistent.
It is probably a rev 04 motherboard, which was used for II and II+.
A lot of the chips, including the CPU have '79 date codes.

Yes, it could be... The only difference is the ROM's and the Lid.. My ][+ has a Rev-1 board in it.. Meaning that it most likely was in for Warranty Repair

But the Silk-Screen Copyright on the MB is 1978.. Like a Rev-03....
Looked at the "CPU and ROMS" photo and noticed a copper trace between the 50-pin connectors is burned badly.
I suspect problems will show up once you start plugging in boards, so be careful with it.

Probably more than a bad power supply on this one. To many gotchas. I fear the high bidder has already promised about twice what this project is worth.

So this brings up a couple of interesting questions:
1. What is more important to the value of an item, its condition or its rarity?
2. What does someone do with a factory sealed item?
As for #1, I have the Adam Ant prototype //c+ with Tiger Cub prototype memory expansion board. To which I've added one of the handful of WORKING CDrive's. This is the exact unit shown in the CDrive video I posted earlier. It's condition is certainly not pristine, but I'm fairly certain there are not very many of these in existence. I know there were less than 10 CDrives made since I burned the GAL's myself. I am considering it's sale and would not think asking $5K is too much.
Now question #2 came to mind recently when I put up for sale an original, never used iPhone 2G. Factory sealed units are selling in the $5-10K range and some are actually getting that! Mine was no longer shrink wrapped (and yes, I had briefly used the charging cord; who knew what a sealed item would be worth years later) but the phone was still in original condition. However that dropped the value by several thousand dollars.
But really, what does someone do with a shrink wrapped iPhone? They never see it, hold it, or get to try it out. In fact, one guy contacted me asking if I knew where he could get an empty iPhone box. I got the distinct impression he was going to put some dead weight in there, shrink wrap it himself, slap on a fake label and try to sell it as real. I mean, if the buyer is never going to open it up he might get away with this.

Pristine item. My mouth watered at the thought of it.
He wins it, it gets shipped to his house, and he immediately opens it.
There were several articles about it and there is a thread up here somewhere on it.
You know I'm a big IIc fan. Always have been. They are my first and favorites.
But I just don't think I'm ready to shell out Five K for a computer in a box that I would only
set in a corner and look at.
I would get a bad case of the "GOTTA OPEN THIS NOW AND USE IT" fever. lol

I figured I'd rather not start a new thread for this so I'll just put it here.
I've found a couple of things on eBay that are...odd.

The description is what gets me. It is obviously heavily modified, yet to me it seems as if the seller implies vaguely that this must have been an officially designed item.
Secondly, this Datanetics keyboard doesn't look to me that it is really an Apple computer keyboard. I could be wrong, but I just can't seem to make the key caps match the switch layout.

Yeah, been watching that one since it was listed. Actually a Bell & Howell II+ (and a very early one at that) based on the picture of the S/N Label.
I kinda doubt though that they used hand made wooden cases

I had the "Wooden Apple II+" on my watch list for a little while.
Then I decided that if I wanted a wood case, I could make one of my own. lol
The first thing I noticed was the fact that it was a Darth Vader base.
I hadn't seen the keyboard, but somehow it does not look right for an Apple II.
Did Datanetics make keyboards for other systems?

I was under the impression they made stand alone keyboards for hobbyist. It's an interesting looking piece; I've never seen one like this before from datanetics. It appears to have a separate keypad to the right.
Can anyone tell the date on the back? It says JAN-4 and then I cant make out the year. Does it say 1980?

I've not been able to find all of the sources cited (specifically the Muller piece as the link appears dead) but perhaps there is some insight into the origin of this piece there.
Another clue - the listing states this is coming from a radio enthusiast. Could be nothing, but any companies that worked in both ham radio/computing back then?
At any rate - I think what appears to be a blue power light at the top left looks pretty cool
Back in the day, a few companies made replacement cases for the Apple II -- most were made out of wood. Remember, this was the late 70's and early 80's when wood paneling was pretty common, and stereo equipment and other electronics featured a lot of wood accents. The expensive stuff used real wood, the cheap stuff used woodgrain laminated stickers. Wood trim was considered 'elegant' and 'warm'.
And then, like with disco's popularity, people eventually came to their senses.

In fact $500.00 to $1500.00 is becoming the new norm.
That's quite a leap from $25.00 plus shipping.

I paid $1500 for my Apple /// system some months ago, as documented with photos here. However, that system was NOS and in perfect, spotless condition after sitting in sealed boxes in an Apple engineer's garage since the early 1980s.
And it came with a monitor, external drive, Profile, and a ton of shrink-wrapped software.
Still probably overpaid, but I love it, especially with a CFA3000 in it. Fitting all the drivers on the damn boot floppy was a challenge, but I did it.

I saw the IIci first, and first I laughed, then I looked through the description to see what I was missing that made it so valuable. Once I realized I wasn't missing anything and it was just a IIci with some extra hardware and software, I started laughing again.

my advice would rather be to register at the moment few domains for websites with names like:

and same also performing with the iphone8 too....
this unpleasent domain-name-hijackers ( and "godaddy" seems to be one of the worst companies in that business )
are blocking thousands of good domain-names - just view the suggestion line below...
and are blackmailing for horrible prices on sale of such blocked domain names.....
i can´t help myself, but each time i view that "go daddy" logo
i get reminded to some kind of comic-pictures from "fritz the cat" or "roger rabbit" at toontown
displaying a fat old cat with a oversized cigar and several minor girlies around the couch...
when i started moving my part of apple II stuff to a own domain
because my old domain reached it´s storage limits
it was a pain to find a domainname that wasn´t hijacked....if you try the combination of "apple" and "box"
you´ll find several dozends of domain-names blocked by such hijackers...
only 2 or three are related to guys selling boxes with apples to eat
and 30 or 40 combinations are empty without content containing only 1 page
from a hijacker company claiming to we willing to sell the domainname
for horrible price.... and it seems that a lot of guy´s are willing to pay such hijackers...
but at least it seems to proove that even companies live on that business...
so there must be some kind of earning money with such "hijacking"-business...

II+ with Vulcan sticker and a label that says 8Mhz CPU and 40 MB hard drive. $200. Sold! I could turn around and sell the II+ with a new keyboard and the Vulcan HD and get myself a free zip chip.

Somebody pulled the power supply and probably the hard drive. There might still be a zip in there, but I'm not going to roll the dice.
That´s one of the issues while reading a offer at ebay.....
One important thing at ebay is not what the seller is telling...
like the "fairytale" about "the source" of that unit...like here:

i doubt after the ZIPchip had been removed that even a CPU has been reinserted....
so the bidder is bidding on a nonworking piece of crap.....

Saw that one yesterday. Normally I don't think much about whether or not it is a scam or attempted shenanigans until after I have contacted the seller and received their response. The vast majority of times I've seen something like this a simple "Could you take a picture of the inside so I know what I am bidding on" has been answered with immediate photo(s) of the question in area.
Sometimes there is no response and other times you get what I get with this auction when trying to contact the seller: "We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of messages this seller receives, they are unable to respond to your specific question right now. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing."
So now I become suspicious. I too noticed the PSU missing and assumed nothing else was inside (except the mobo which is partially visible in the picture)
You never know but this one looks fishy. I took a chance recently on a bulk purchase (3 machines w/monitors, insides sight unseen)
Based on the software and books with the machines it looked like a school purchase and there was a chance of some interesting cards inside.
First machine was an enhanced IIe with a zip 8000 installed, ramworks III, Vitesse Quickie card (not worth much without the scanner of course) and a Vtech UDC card. Everything works and it was so nice to be able to hook up a 400k drive, 800k drive and 5.25 unidisk to my apple IIe all at the same time!!!!
That one machine will easily pay for the entire purchase, leaving out the fun stuff I am keeping for myself of course!
