Evening all (at least evening where I am!)
Decided to dip into the Apple /// arena and picked one up today. The machine is in desperate need of a cleaning, but everything works. Comes w/a PKASO printer card and Corvus Interface card w/cable, external floppy drive and Monitor ///.
But, the real treasure trove of this purchase was the software and paperwork. The system came from a former sales rep, so the "Sales Aids" binder was very interesting as are the Tech Support News letters (about a dozen of them)
The disks are what blew me away. In the photos are only about 60% of the disks that came with this computer. Most of the sleeves you see have 2 to 3 more disks behind the one on top. Some are the 2nd and 3rd disks for a given program, others are 2 or 3 different program/data disks.
I have now gone through every disk (just over 100) and there was only 1 disks that did not work!!!! I had my old BBS/AE line disks in climate controlled storage since I took the line down in the late 80's and of the 300+ Apple II disks I saved there was a failure rate of about 30%. (I also learned those cheap "Ultra Magnetics" brand disks sucked, 90% of my failures were on them!!)
I could not believe there was only 1 bad disk out of the entire bunch. I have a higher failure rate than that with the unopened boxes of blank floppies!
I have already begun making 2 copies of every disk (there were actually about another 25 disks that were backups, and they all worked too!!) There may certainly be a few that have bad sectors that i have not encountered yet and will when copying, but every disk either booted, I was able to catalog the volume and see the files and/or I copied it.
Of all the machines I owned growing up and the stuff I have now, the /// is one of the few machines I have never had at any point in my life, until now!!

You have a number of titles there that are of significance... any chance you can make images and upload to one of the archival sites?
Sure thing. Just need to know how to do that on the /// since I have never done it.
I will catalog the entire set. Never looked to see what SOS software was online. Any thoughts as to what in particular I should focus on as far as what disks?
Yes, that'd be great. Been looking for Business Graphics. More importantly a game! Congrats on the find.
Zan,
Nice unit!
A little TLC and it will be fantastic.
Steven
You can use ADTPro to image the disks directly from the /// or existing Apple II if you already have that setup with ADTPro (please copy protect first :-).
apple3.org probably has the most complete set of disks.
Thanks Steven. I was actually surprised it was working when I went to pick it up since it appears there was something living inside the case for awhile in the garage it was in
Already dismantled it and did a basic cleaning. Case/keyboard will come later since I don't have a lot of time right now. $200 was more than I planned on spending on a /// (for me, not that it isn't worth it) but once I saw both drives worked and all the software and documentation I was quite satisfied.
Bunch of duplicate disks (probably 8 or 10 different pieces of software are doubles) so I can move a few of them to offset the cost.
