Need help with Powerbook Pismo

Hi, I need help with a Powerbook Pismo. It will not boot past the screen lighting up with a hard drive plugged in. Any hard drive! Once I unplug the hard drive it boots to the flashing question mark icon. Again, with a hard drive plugged in it won't go pass the lit up screen, nothing else, no icons, no beeps etc.

What I have tried:

reset nvram and all in open firmware, nothing
reset button on back, nothing
new hard drive cable, nothing
many different hard drives, nothing
zapping the pram, nothing

I can boot from a CD but the hard drive has to be unplugged. If it is plugged in than it won't boot from a cd, with C held or not.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
MaxTek

Re: Need help with Powerbook Pismo

Is the data cable for the hard drive oriented correctly? Some Macs use a flipped ATA connector, which is quite annoying considering not all connections are keyed. I have come across this problem a couple of times, but not actually ever on a Mac, but rather on a PC/AT clone which although it used IDE did the same thing as some Macs.

Well, thats my 2c anyway...

No nothing is flipped with the data cable. Thanks for the input though.
