Of the 70s and early 80s TVs what ones are appropriate for an Apple II?
I am aware that all you need is a composite video input and NTSC.
In my case space is a premium, but I really dont want to stick a flat screen over my pride and joy! You know what I mean.
I also want and need color.
Am thinking of using a portable 1972 Sony Trinitron KV-9000U which I may be able to get for cheap.
Anyone who is familiar with this, know if it has a composite video input?
What about the rare, expensive and bulky Apple ColorMonitor IIe?
I think LCD/flat screen would be great with an Apple II! But if you really want to make it look like it's of that era, slap some wood grain contact paper on it, and hot melt glue on a couple of large numbered knobs. Viola!
Seriously, avoid older televisions, they die quickly. They made some nice 13" TV's with composite "in" connectors over the last ten years, mostly durable. Also, consider woodgraining an LCD monitor.

Commodore 1701 or 1702 monitor
The monitor will be for a ][ system that I hope to actually "use" for a bit of fun.
Don't mind waiting for the right one to show up. This will be with me for awhile
I have considered:
Amdek 13'' Color-1 (classic match for Apple ][ but large size is an issue)
Sony Trinitron 8'' PVM 8020 (small form factor, but is 8'' too small??)
JVC 9'' TM-90 (multi voltage and NTSC/PAL)
Multi-standard is a big plus for me as this will have re-sellability in the UK.
Don't think I will be able to get rid of an NTSC monitor even for free and I would not have the heart to throw it away if I need to replace.
I finally chose the Sony Trinitron 8'' 8020 PVM
- small form factor, will sit nicely on the Apple ][ case with space for the Disk ][
- 1987 vintage
- Japanese Made (not nasty Chinese stuff)
- Sony Trinitron color technology
- NTSC (multi-standard would have been nice but you can't have everything)
- nice cream color fits well with the ][ case
- low wattage requirement so could use with existing power transformer
- easy availability, good pricing and resaleability (used by photo guys)

Good Choice, but I still like the CBM 1701 or 1702!
The SONY is a great selection, BUT the CBM 1701 or 1702 would have been a better choice if screen clarity is a must. All TV Tubes have oval shaped blips, the CMB monitors were a bit more sharp and clearer and are used by many still in the US for view with VCR's or DVD players. I have one still and used it with my Apple IIplus/IIe with great results.
To use a Commodore monitor with an Apple ][ is sacrilege, isn't it?

Yesterday while I was letting The Wife play Ms PacMan, she enquired "can you play this on a bigger screen?"...I then proceeded to plug it into my 2006 Panasonic 42 inch plasma and she munched away at the dots and ghosts. Total sacrilege but total fun.

Yes, the Commodore monitors are very, very nice, with a sharpness and image quality to rival a pristine Trinitron. The size is just right. I wouldn't call it sacrilege, no; more of a peace treaty between two battle-scarred old rivals.
