iMac logic board transfer

I don't see why not... I have seen the inside of a 700Mhz iMac and my mom's Sapphire iMac, and didn't notice any difference, maybe the board layout, but that should be it. It's not that hard to tell, just open up the early 2001, and size the july board in there. that should tell ya'

Having done this before ... You'll need to pay close attention to where the heatsinks that are mounted to the metal piece are. you should be able to remove them from the donor and install them on the recipient. Should work without issue.

i questioned switching boards in my pre-dv slotload and was told that there might be a few issues with different connectors in the later pinouts. i think it was that 600 was the best before there was incompatability.

Is it possible to take a logic board from a July 2001 Graphite 600MHz iMac, and put it into a Early 2001 Indigo 400MHz iMac?

The 400DV has a screw on heat sink attatched to the divider panel, you will have to remove it and relocate it to match up with the processor of the new logic board. It will also be a milimeter to short. It will need to be heightened to work properly with the processor.

The later model iMacs have a non removable heat sink on the divider panel. It is a formed hump on the divider panel not a block of aluminum as the DV's.

The last issue with this swap is the DV will lose the ability to start up from the power on button on the keyboard. That is if you are using the original keyboard that came with the DV models. The faster logic boards don't have this ability.

I can't see possibly trashing a working iMac unless you have money to throw away.
