that's on my "I always wanted to do that" list. Maybe right before I get a new set of tires put on the focus.

Back in my high school days...

... I drove a 1970 Plymouth Duster (or was it a '71? It was a while ago.) with an anemic slant-6 in it. It would hardly spin its tires on ice, but I discovered one day that if I pulled a hard right turn at low speed and stomped on the gas I could get that right rear wheel to spin forever.

Boy did I have fun with that, until Dad saw me do it once. Yikes!

On that car there was also a trick where you'd flip the air filter cover upside down and it'd make a cool howling sound when you stomped on the gas. Between the tire spinning trick and the howling, I spent a lot of time with my foot against the firewall with that car!

Today on the way to the mall

Today on the way to the mall to hang out with ax0n and asmodianX we rode by a very nice 1960-1962 Plymouth Valiant, and I thought of you and the Duster. That was a fun image, going more retro with the fins and all...

Heh, that video reminds me of the time i borrowed my friend's taurus wagon, reverse it out of a spot then put it in lowgear and it spun the tires forever. Great fun.

Ah, the Valiant. The early '60 models were quite, um... unique. I guess I never considered the Duster to be "a Valiant with curves", but I guess it makes sense.

The Dusters on that page are nice; funny how most of them that have survived until now only have the big V8's in them. Back in the day there were a lot of slant-6 Mopars that were pretty well rodded up. Some could even give a good V8 a run for its money. The slant-6 was a good robust motor; the key to getting them to really move was to put a bigger carburetor on it (most came with a 1-barrel carb) and better exhaust.

I just googled slant-6, and it looks like the venerable motorvator has a lingering fan base.
