In setting up a WinBox for someone, I have their default browser set as Firefox.
But there is a site they use that requires IE (or more specifically, doesn't support Firefox, needs some plugin that doesn't exist for it yet).
So I have as shortcut to the site on the desktop, and I'd like to point that shortcut to open the site in Internet Explorer... but I can't figure out how... even if I drag the shortcut out of the IE address bar to the desktop, it immediately turns into a firefox icon.
Can this be done, while still keeping Firefox as the default browser?
Easy as pie on a Mac, but I bet its near impossible on windows.
Any help appreciated!
Place a shortcut for IE on the Desktop. Rename the shortcut to the URL that you need open in IE...
Set IE so that the home page is the site you want to open. When the user opens the shortcut, it will launch IE, which will load the home page, which is the site you want them to go to...
Is that kinda what you were lookin for?
hmm... that's clever... that will work... but,
What if there are a few more sites that require IE? This trick only works for one site.
But I like the way you think.
Easy breezy...
- At the Desktop, right-click and choose New - Shortcut
- You should be given a Create Shortcut Wizard
- for the location, you want to enter the following:
C:\Progra~1\Intern~1\iexplore.exe "http://www.slashdot.org"
- Click next
- Name the shortcut appropriately and click Finish.
See how that works for ya...
Start Internet Explorer.
Navigate to the site you want.
Select, Right-click, & copy the address.
Right-click on desktop, select New, and then select Shortcut.
In the "Type the Location of the Item" text box, type:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Click Next.
In the "Type a Name for this Shortcut" text box, type the name you want for it
Click Finish.
On your desktop, right-click the shortcut icon you just made, and select Properties.
In the Target text box, place your cursor after "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe", press the Space Bar key once, right-click to the right of the space, and then select Paste (pasting the link address).
Click OK.
Now, even if Firefox is your default browser, the shortcut will open Internet Explorer and take you to the site.
