Soldering Tips?

Any ideas/tips on soldering the analogue board? The soldering on pins 8-12 went swimmingly and the removal of the jumper at J78 also came out without a hitch. I just can't seem to get the wire to attach to pin 20.

I've been struggling with the this all morning and am wanting to get the project going.

Though others will disagree w

Though others will disagree with me, I find it easier to simply modify the wires in the harness than to try and solder in such a small cramped area. Doesn't really answer your question (I'm a complete novice at soldering myself), just my two cents.

(Maybe asking the obvious, but...)Did you pre-tin the wire?

Maybe if you could give a bit more detail on what the problem is with pin 20...solder won't melt, won't stick, too bloody small, etc. Wink

Novice solderer..er.er.er

It's been a good (bad) 15 years since my last soldering project. Could I isolate pin 25 by simply pulling the foil on the harness rather than using a Dremel?

Yeah, but the area is way way way too small for my fumbling hands. I finally got the jumper soldered, but now I need a beer . I was wondering if anyone had a special trick or two they'd like to share.

I found that a cooler iron (425 F or so) worked better than one at 500 degrees. 400 took way to long to heat up.

A trick for the soldering or for the beer? Acute

My dexterity isn't quite what it used to be, so I find using tweezers or those 'extra hands' clips to hold the wires in place are a big help.

A clean, well-tinned iron is always necessary. I usually kiss the iron to a jar of flux once it's heated up then give it a wipe on some paper towel or a rag (or the sponge that came with my Weller iron when I've remembered to give it some water) - even if I'm using flux-cored solder.

Hey, any tricks for beer and we'll start a new forum.

The extra hands clips were very helpful. I didn't have to use them when I was younger, but of course, the components were a bit larger then too. I'll try the iron in the flux trick next time I fire up the station. I think I'm done today with the solder station.

If you see a big plume of smoke over Oklahoma, you'll know that I didn't quite get the solder job right. Otherwise, I'll be gearing up for a Takky mod next.

Thanks for the levity.
