I've got a DOA Macintosh Classic II and a Macintosh Classic I (both B/W). Can you do the same mod (Mystic) that you can on a color classic, or does the B/W require different modding of the video resistors? Just curious. I figured you CC folks would be the most likely to know. Thanks.

I thought the board replacement wouldn't fit in a Classic I or II shell... what's it use? a PM5500 board or something? I hate CCs, but I have to admit, that's a nice hack.
I wonder if the SE/30 guts fit into the Classic I & II shells.... ?
CCs are totally different from the b/w compacts in their internal architecture. You could put a different logic board in a Classic, but it's not usually the logic board that's dead - usually it's the analogue board. Sadly, I don't think there's a "non-cost-effective" use of a dead Classic or Classic II, never mind a worthwhile one!
You could try the 'gray scale' project type of approach to a Classic, but it's decidely non-trivial!

I agree, the Classic and Classic II architecture is totally different from the CC. My suggestion is that if both the Classic and Classic II don't work, use the good parts (if any) from both machines and try to make one working machine. The classic and Classic II architectures as far as analog boards and CRTs, are very similar. Otherwise, you could always turn them into fish tanks
