32MB RAM, 3GB drive, no power supply, probable dead battery, possibly had a bad life - dubious origin, case etc. may be in any condition("great condition" is meaningless on eBay).
Still, at roughly the equivalent of AU$90, it's not THAT much of a bad deal, for parts or something...
Those resolutions are quite interesting....
512 x 384
640 x 400
640 x 480
800 x 600
832 x 624
1024 x 768
1152 x 870
1280 x 1024
Funny, considering the fact that the Clamshells don't support anything other than 640x480 and 800x600.
If you actually look at the list carefuly, you will clearly see "n/a-bit" next to very single resolution except for 640x480 and 800x600. Below that list it even states:
Notes: supports 640- by 480-pixel and 800- by 600-pixel resolution with millions of colors.
I bought two, arrived in fine condition with 64 ram, 6 gig HDs, good batteries, and AP cards installed. Packing wasn't great but no apparent shipping damage. Many thanks for the hot tip!
Was my purchase good luck? Nope, vendor had lots of feedback, 100% positive IIRC.

ps: prolly shoulda bought all 7 available at the time - nertz!
I also recevied mine in good condition. The packing was...not something I would have used to ship a laptop but it seemed to suffer no ill effects. I also got one with the same config as yours. I was pleasently surprised by the airport card. That alone made it a worthwhile purchase.
My only complaint is that the batter won't hold any charge whatsoever. It is either that, or a problem with the battery charger. Oh well.
I went to the original link, and checked the seller's other auctions--I just grabbed the last one!! I hope that I have the same experience you guys seemed to have. He does have 100% feedback, so...
I ordered two. Both had the same configuration as above, but one had a dead battery, while the other had exemplary battery life.
This time, the bad packing actually manifested. The box of the one with the bad batt. was crushed, and the one side of the laptop chassis had cracked and the keyboard warped. I'm still dealing with the seller to get a replacement.
Everyone was right about the packing job--a wad of newspaper at each end of a standard USPS box and one layer of bubble wrap around it. But, it came in great shape--miraculously enough. I have upgraded the RAM with a 256mb stick I had in my tool box, and got it to 9.2.2, downloaded iTunes, etc. Been a while since I have used "Classic" It runs like a champ, but I need to get OS X on it. I was thinking Jaguar. I dunno. Right now I like it just like it is.
thanks for snatching all of them up guys. now I will never get a clamshell. I could have really used one of those for school. being a poor college student isnt easy... -digital
I don't imagine that being a rich college student would be that much easier. Hey, I saw the movie.
Vendor listed another batch, bought two more! This time though I'm gonna get 'em to do a better packing job.
For others interested in this vendor's (or anyone's) auctions, you can have eBay send you an email when they list something new. That's how I grabbed this pair. From the item page, hit the "view sellers other items" and save that using the "add search to favorites", and then make sure the "email me with updates" (or what ever it says) is checked.

I appologize that this kinda appears here instead of WTB but I figured those who had bought from this vendor might end up with some spare parts, so I thought I'd throw my wishlist here out, see if maybe that's the case; trying to find a replacement keyboard and trackpad (which basically means top face, someone took a pair of scissors to mine). anyone? hopefully? *Crosses fingers*
Nertz, no AP cards in this batch, musta wised up. Otherwise very nice units.
Also, the packing was laughable (even moreso than the first pair, if possible!) I had asked the vendor to do a better job this time, and was assured it would be so. They arrived in a huge box, partly filled with more boxes, but with the iBooks floating around loose amongst 'em. Sigh . . . amateurs . . .
Somehow these two came through OK, just dumb luck though.

If you snooze, you lose.
Quit whining...David
The same seller is now selling $85 lombards! With power adapters this time!
anyone know what these are coming with???? are they ready to run???
well! i bought one anyways. i couldnt let this one pass me by. i only hope that it works well and isnt a hunk of crap. the guy has 100% user feedback so im guessing its gonna be ok. right?
Looks good. From what I read they all have 9.1 installed.
im not too too worried about whats coming on them, i just hope they work well and dont die 15 min running on battery.
This is only slightly relevant... as this was "snapped" in Yorktown (on one of the battlefield tours) last summer, and that's where these iBooks are coming from. I just thought you should all be aware of this infestation, and to be careful if you crack open your iBooks and not be too surprised at what jumps out. I have a picture from about 10 years ago with about 5X as many of the creatures on what looks like the same log (but that can't be). Anyway... that's on a 35mm slide in a box somewhere... kind of hard to post that.
Nah, don't worry too much. I live about 5 miles away from Yorktown and I've never had any turtle problems
Although it is of some concern that the person wouldn't allow me to pick up one of the computers.
All too often the shipping price is a way for sellers to make a bit extra, which I'm assuming is the reason he wouldn't let you pick up.
I just bought 3, I spent just under $300 for them and I plan to do some modding. Where can I pick up some bigger drives?
Oh it is. Not for me, but my rich friend here at Penn decided one day he liked Macs and made the "switch" with a modest purchase of a PowerBook G4, 20" Apple Cinema dispay, Bluetooth keyboard, Bluetooth mouse, and AirPort Express.
Yes, it's easy. I'd like to try it but having wealthy friends doesn't seem to make ME wealthy.
My family putting 3 children through 3 private colleges at the same time [Penn/Princeton/Bryn Mard] doesn't help matters. Thank God for financial aid!
My family gave me a one-way ticket to the other side of the world for my 18th birthday and a pat on the back and a "see ya later" and a "write sometime," but I'm happy enough in paradise with my old B&W and an 17" Envision LCD and a waxed-up board and the smile of my daughter. Scrooge probably had a Powerbook G4 and a 20" Apple Cinema display and a bluetooth smile when he was studying financial investing.
Merry Christmas!
has anyone here bought this and received it yet? im just curious to see how its goin...... i bought one and havnt gotten it yet..
i bought one too but havent recieved one, a signifigant upgrade from my 5300cs
well i should have had mine yesterday but the USPS cant find my house yet they deliver my mail here every day... what loosers.... honest to god i could smack them.
I got my 3 yesterday....sadly only one has a decent battery.
Where can I pick up a good battery for a good price? Oh, is there anything in the listing that keeps me from sending the two that didn't work bad as "not as described"? I didn't see it say that the batteries were bad in the auction.
i def dont expect mine to have a great battery.. just as long as the machine works fine with a new battery.....
well i finnally got mine up and running with panther. took a long time to install but its in and im typing on it now. the battery seemed to be horrible when i first got it but after about 3 kills and recharges it seems to hold for a little while. OR it could be the fact that OSX reset the battery and is now actually charging and reading the level right. OS9 didnt read it very well at all. it would show 100% for about 10 min then just shut down. im amazed as to how well this machine works with panther. beware of the CPU fan though, mine does not work. i am keeping my eye on the cpu temps as it feels very hot. i gotta hardwire the fan to some 5v wire......
Do you think it's powerful enought to do some light video editing, right now i do video editing on my imac 266
the way i see it, its got all the power a first gen imac does, but supports panther. it does run well but it will probly be the same that your imac is. only thing better is 8mb vram. you can max out the ram to 512 if you buy the right 256 chip for the bottem slot. but i bet the HD space isnt going to be much for video.
i dont need to worry about the hd ive got a 40 gig ready for it, do you have to do that freaky partition thing where osx has to be in the first 8gigs of the harddrive like you do on the old imac g3s
to be safe i would do 7.5 gb in first partition.
The other day I found several websites that listed mods for the Lombard series Macs. One was a guy that made an MP3 player for his car out of the Lombard. I can't find the site again so if someone could help me out, that would be great!
It does not have to be in the first 8gb of hd space. the only powerbooks you had to do that with were the wallstreets and lower.i have my own lombard 400 with a 30gb hd that is not partitioned. runs perfect and i have never had it crash.
my AIO is running tiger on a 20GB HDD, and it is not partitioned at all. Granted, there was nothing on it when I installed OS X. I also used a 10GB with OS 9 installed on the drive first, and I was able to install OS X with no partition designated. It just has to be in the 1st 8GB Platter area.
Also, SCSI doesn't have the problem either. I've put an 18GB SCSI drive in a G3DT and it was fine with one partition.
thanks for the info, apoc was the website http://www.macmod.com/
That wasn't the website but the mod is listed there, thanks!
Did you see the silver striped powerbook g3 that thing looks awesome, i wish i could find the metal to do that to mine
Jon,
I think, as colus put Tiger on an AIO, he must have used XPostFacto, which defeats the limitation.
And yes, the limitatiion is only ATA.
I wonder if there is any such limitation to SATA.
