losing speed with airport?

i think i might have subbmitted this as an article, whatever that is? anyway,
i am moving into a new house with 4 other guys and we are looking at getting bulldogs 8meg broadband. if we save money and get a wireless router with 4 ports (instead one with more ports that are far more expensive) will i lose any speed using my ibook G3 with an airport card? i dont want to agree to it then find out that i am paying for this really fast service when i am losing speed over the air...can anyone help?

About losing speed, I don't know, but however, I do know that this topic should be posted/moved to the Power macs and software.

Ideal Settings

Under ideal settings, airport is capable of 11mb connections, so it won't be much slower than via ethernet cable. You may need to tweak your base station/access point to get optimal performance. The original Airport base station defaults at 2mb, but can be adjusted for 11mb. The card in the g3 iBooks is only capable of 11mb at best. For internet connections, I haven't seen any improvement between 802.11b (11mb) and 802.11g (54mb), but for machine to machine (54mb comes out ahead). Sadly, there is no way to add 802.11g or airport extreme to your iBook short of via usb, and then you are hamstrung by the 12mb limitation of the usb bus.
