PC Projects - Openunix on Pentium 166
Submitted by tachyon on May 4, 2005 - 6:08pm
Successful install! It boots up and running an XWindows Server. I found out the Window Manager it runs is called CDE.
Anyway the only thing I forgot to do is make sure the darn old PC had an Ethernet card in it before the install. Now I will have to put one in and figure out how to configure it.
I found a review on Unixreview.com which explains how to switch to KDE.

Script corrupts the Window Manager
Trust. That's what I didn't do. The reviewer said that the CDE setup was destroyed if you used their script, and I followed right in his footsteps and wrecked the XWindows/CDE setup. Of course I don't know what it did and how to fix it, except to do like the reviewer and reinstall OpenUnix. Otherwise it's command-line only and that's no fun.
End of this project
I have disposed of this Pentium due to space limitations so I guess this Project must be closed, however I intend on resuming this experiment on some different hardware. See you there!
