This isn't really the right place for this but these guys would be great for hacks. I have 25-30 Quadra/Centris computers that I got free from my university. They are in bad condition but most that I've tried do boot. These are complete units, most have 500mb hd(sometimes two 500mb hds), 64mb ram, no cd, and National Instruments cards designed to interface with electronic lab equipment. I was giving them away to people in my local area but I am loosing my storage space as of this spring and I want to make sure that they all get homes. I will give any amount to anyone, any part to anyone, and I will boot them before I send so you don't pay shipping on a broken item. Just post here if you want anything.

Free Quadra 840avs
What kind of lab equipment?
What is your location?
just curious...but what national instruments cards do these have? and are they pci?
national instruments makes labview, a very interesting programming...language-ish thing
the cards are probably NuBus, the first macs to have PCI were some PowerMacs (7xxx or 8xxx, i don't remember)
my location is Philly (PA),
the cards are NuBus as said above and some computers may still have labVIEW installed. With labVIEW and compatable hardware you can run complex tests in the real world from your computer, control waveform gens, read in info from multi meters etc
Wow! I'm in Philly too!
So I might very well be interested. Will you post again here soon to let us know how many, if any, have been claimed and how many, if any, are still available? I'll take two if possible.
Matt
If you have a 660av or an 840av let me know.. I would be glad to pay shipping..
I have a Quadra 840av with maxed out memory, os and a 72gb Drive in it..
I would like to network it and build a twin to do more video editing.
Thanks.

Count me in for one of those 840AVs. I'd like one with the NI card and Labview if you've got any left. I'd like do some data-acquisition with some 'scopes we have. Let me know what shipping would be and I'll get a check out today!
Thanks -danno
I have to wait until next week to get at my main stash(brothers basement). I think I have one or two at my house but they do not have NI cards in them. I will check this evening. please e-mail me at ruof02@hotmail.com with what you want, how you want it shipped and shipping address. I will get the shipping cost and notify you of the cost and when it's shipped. Remember if you just want parts I will do that as well. If you are local then we just need to work out a time that is good for both of us.
I sent a request by PM...
I'm interested in a motherboard and CPU from an 840AV. Is the AV stuff all on the 'board, or are there daughterboards and/or other ancilliary doodads involved? Is the PS similar to any other Mac power supplies?
An HD with Labview on it would be good too.
I am interested in your Quadra Centris computers. I would probably be interested in one or two of them - and I am definately interested in a National Instruments NB-DIO-32F card - if any have one in it.
I am putting together a backup for an existing system that has a NB-DIO-32F in it and need to locate one.
Send me some details.
Thanks!
still any available?
I'd definitely be interested if there's still a Quadra 840AV left. I have mostly very slow 68K Macs, and I'd defnitely like a faster one to play with.

I will be getting around to you guys soon, but I got overloaded at work.
no problem man!
i am totally in the same boat!!
Let me know how much shipping is to 83651, and I will be glad to take one off your hands, if it is working.
Thanks, John haines
No problem, I'm not in any sort of hurry. Shipping will be to 94501, just FYI. Also, if you have any spare Apple monitors, I might be interested in one, as I'm down to one at the moment.
If a Quadra 840AV is available I would like to receive one. My current 840AV recently died, powers up but no startup sound and does not boot. Memory and hard drives work on other computers.
Count me in. I'll PM you.
We use one Quadra 840 in our lab ( running for the last 9 years) and recently the fan started to make some funny screeching noise. I was wondering wether there is still some spare Quaadra 840 with you, so that we can keep a replacement in stock.
If you catch it now, you may yet save that fan. Remove the back case of the computer, unclip the fan and oil it, which may require removal of a sticker.
You should be able to buy a replacement in any case... fans like those are quite common items.
