I would like to find a copy of 8.6. It needs to be the full version 8.6 install CD. I would like to know how fast OS 8 runs on a 1.2 ghz proc and 1.25 gb ram.
Please pm me here.
Thanks in advance!

What mac are you trying to run 8.6 on? If it's a mac released after about 2000 or so, it won't run.
It's a Sawtooth (AGP G4 Tower). Apple lists the supported operating systems as 8.6 through X. Just want to give it a shot.

required a special hardware specific version, and a regular "retail" 8.6 CD won't work. Can anyone confirm that my memory isn't completely shot? ISTR early Sawtooth models shipped with a special 8.6 version, but later versions shipped with 9.0.
If you want your Sawtooth to run more slowly, then by all means try to track down a functional 8.6 install, but any OS 9 has waaay more PPC native code than does any OS 8. If you want to really use your Sawtooth with a classic (Pre-X) MAc OS, your best bet is stick with 9.
Hey, you might just be able to squeeze the original CDs outa Apple. I've done that several times in the past, just called and said I lost my original CDs and they sent me new ones no charge. Dunno if they'll do that anymore these days, but it's worth a shot.

It's not that I want my machine to run more slowly, it's just that I want to do it to say I did it. Plus I wouldn't mind having a quad boot system(X.3.8,9.2.2, YDL3 and hopefully 8.6).
And if it's a hardware specific version of 8.6 I need, then I guess that's what I seek.
Thanks Dan

Mactracker and Everymac.com lists the 8.6 as the original OS for the Sawtooth.
