I have an emac which is of the old type (not with ATI graphics). I have been given this computer as the previous owner gave up trying to make it work. When the power button is pressed the fan comes on and the screen audibly comes alive and then the fan stops and there is nothing. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem it would be most appreciated. I have reset the pmu chip and have checked the battery.

Crack it open, remove the hard drive, cdrom etc so only the bare essentials for making it turn on are in place, literally the motherboard and power supply, and of course monitor. then try it. If it works, gradually add peripherials, until it dosn't work, thenyou know what the problem is!
All drives have been disconnected and still, when switched on, the fan goes for maybe 2 seconds and the monitor makes a switching on noise. I have one idea to what the problem might be and I would welcom any comments on the subject. My idea is that the flyback transformer might be at fault... this can be replaced I think with a new flyback transformer with the aide of a soldering iron. Does anyone have any advice for me?
I would go through and disconnect the CRT, and try booting it then. If it boots fine, I say put it in an ATX Box, FlexATX or MicroATX case if it fits in one. And then just use an external monitor.

Good luck trying to power it outside the emac case.
Although it should be possible to power the emac motherboard using another power source I can't find the information (pinout, voltages) that I need to do this. My plan is to try and disconnect the crt from the analogue/display board to see if it will then boot up.
