Does anyone know how to get an imac 366 red machine to recognize two disk drives on an ide channel. I have added a new ribbon cable and an external power supply for the second drive but no matter how I set the disk jumpers the machine will not activate the second disk. Is it software bios or hardware jumper that is the problem? I am still mac os9.1. don't have enough memory to go to mac os10 or a internet connection that will let me go to 9.2.1 or 9.2.2

i think the imacs ide channel will only support 2 devices no mater what. In my 500 mhz imac g3 you can only have 2 internal devices (hard drive, cdrom)
on the ribbon cable how are you hooking it up the the board? i had to modify an ATA cable to fit my connector on the board just so i could use my hd and my own DVD drive. you can only use 2 drives, so its 2 hd or 1 hd and a cd/dvd. you can run extra storage on a firewire drive though, they are pretty fast. to my knowledge they wont boot from one though.
:edit: and oh yea it shouldnt matter at all what OS you are using. should work fine if just two drives one as master and one as slave. BTW, you have the 50 pin connector on the board right? you want to have the connector on the side that says pin 49-50 and the red wire has to be on the opposite side. thats where the IDE stops and power/audio starts for the CD/DVD drive.
Original tray loaders can support 4 drives.
More modern slot loaders can only support 2.
