Okay,
I just got myself a pretty 350 imac that currently has os 9.0.4 on it.
I want to install os x but i am afraid to because of the following links:
http://www.capecodgraphics.com/imac_firmware.htm
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75430
How do I find out what version of the firmware that I have? And is the 4.1.9 the latest version?
I really don't care about having os 9 on it so i just want to wipe it out and start fresh with os x.3 but i don't want to screw anything up and have a non-bootable imac.
Well i figured it out. When i got it home, i went and booted to my 9.2.1 cd and initialized the hard drive and then installed 9.2.1.
After that, i did software updates and one of them was the 4.1.9 firmware update.
I then followed the instructions given for doing the firmware update.
Rebooted, did the programmer button thingy and sucessfully did the firmware update.
Rebooted it and booted to the OS X.3 cd and wiped the drive and installed OS X.3.
I like it. Really slick. I also installed Office 2004 too. Nice and pretty.
