well, I just did a clean install of system 6.0.8, and I must say, the inerface is really stable. only problem is, I still have the stock 1mb of ram in the thing, and I have Multifinder on. I have two questions:
1. I have 15mb left on my hard drive, is there any program like the virtual memory program on the system 6 heaven website that works under a 68000 processor? the one on that site needs a 68020 or 68030.
2. Is there a website that still sells vintage 1mb 72 pin SIMMS @ 150ns?
when I am running the Plus, I usually have less than 300k to use. I cant install programs unless I turn off the multifinder, but I like it on.

30 pin simms of any speed 150ns or faster will work a Plus, I just can't imagine you could find ram slower than 150ns!

The reson the programs require a 68020 (w/ a PMMU, 68551?) or a 68030 is the use of a MMU. THe MMU is a Memory Management Unit. It can create virtual address space for the processor, and translate that space into what is currently in physical RAM and disk RAM to seem like one big physical RAM chunk. THE MMU does in hardware what would be very messy and CPU intensive to do only in software. The VM drivers you found tell the MMU what to do and where to put stuff under the virtual address space. There were MMU add-ons for 68000 Amigas (I've heard of 'em for the A1000 and A500) but I've not much knowledge of early Mac accellerators and add-ons to know if anyone built a simple MMU/FPU add-on that didn't also go ahead and add a 68020 or 68030 too. Running VM on a simple 68000 will be vey very slow since all the work is done by the CPU, and the slow disk controller, and the slow memory bus...
ancient utility/init/cp, named (IIRC!?) optimem. It didn't need or use VM, just dynamically messed about with the ram allocation of each open app. Worked really well too (IIRC!?) Worked on any Mac, but (IIRC!?) may have needed Sys7. I can't lay my hands on my old installer floppy, otherwise I'd have more details.
