Flashed SCSI card in Jaguar?

I picked up a 9500/132 at a local thrift store for $15. Inside was an Adaptec 2940UW PCI SCSI card flashed for use with the Mac. Can this card be used in a Beige G3 with Jaguar? It would be nice to overcome the 8GB limit on the first partition.

Nope

There's no OS X support from Adaptec except for their currently shipping cards. Apple supports some of the OEM cards, but not these commercial ones.

I don't think these can be flashed from PC (?) without some hardware modification... there's no special identifying marks on the PowerDomain (Mac) line of cards though.

Flashing the Mac BIOS onto 2940 varients was fairly common, once upon a time. (I'd actually like to lay my paws on one, since the flashed cards apparently work fairly well in PCI Sun machines.)

As for OS X support, drivers for a number of the older Adaptec cards is included in the OS. Last I checked the 2940 driver was *really* buggy and not bootable, however.

I've got a 2940UW laying arou

I've got a 2940UW laying around. I've been meaning to put it some where but never really had much use for a PC PCI SCSI card, 'cause al the good SCSI drives go into my Macs or Suns... Knowing that I could flash the card and make it work in a PCI Sun is a great tip for a future Sun workstation purchase... Dirol

?

Anybody here actually flashed this particular card? Has the firmware gotten smaller... or maybe it needs a hacked version?

Article here shows replacing the eeprom with a larger one.
