Lets say I have a machine with multiple users and multiple hard drives, and I want to limit access to all but part of one hard drive for all users but myself.
The Users control panel allows one to set up managed accounts, but does not limit access to drives.
I thought I could take care of this with permissions... but its not working. All the accounts can see and read and write to all the drives, even though I set permissions for the drives such that only my admin account should be able to access and change the drives I want hidden from the other accounts.
The machine is an 8600 w/ a G4/450 running Panther with XPostFacto.
Is this a bug? Can anyone duplicate this? Any ideas on how to accomplish what I want?
Off subject, but heck, its my post, and no one cares...
Security Update 2004-08-09: Failed
This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.
2004-08-10 00:21:24.979 softwareupdate[2012] didn't delete /tmp/0/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/SecUpd2004-08-09Pan.pkg, failed safety check
Anyone know why I get this after trying to install the new Security Update? Does 10.3.5 update include this?
My guess is that the permissions you changed wouldn't allow the update to go forward. You might have to do a Repair Permissions in Disk Utility and then try doing the update.
As to your limiting of other users, what permissions did you use to limit them?
With different system startup drives, I only wanted users to see the drive their home directory was on; I used the info panel on the drives not starting Panther, not on the drive that the security update would have installed on.
