I ran a quadra for about 4 years with a loose screw in it. Never seemed to damage it.
Yeah...but that's an $4 Quadra, versus a $4000 G4. Not only that, on Quadras (the 9XX and 8XX series at least) it's impossible to get a screw on the mobo in such a manner that it'd short-circuit it. You know those ATA things under the mobo? Two touch, the whole G4 goes blammo. Worse, the HD and CPU could die too.
True..though I doupt it was that catastrophic...
you dropped a screw, open the case and if you have to, remove the motherboard and remove the screw. No big deal.
What exactly "scared the ****" out of you? I don't exactly understand that.
If he's like me, then he's excitable, and prone to bizarre and disastrous accidents.
For example- the time a coffee table leg strangely became unglued at precisely the right moment to dump a bowl of raisin bran right on the cat. I still can't entirely explain that one, and the cat was mad at me for a week.
If I saw that, I would be ROTFLMAO. Just like when I give ol' fluff a bath. Anyway, I would not get that 'scared' over droping a screw like that, exept if it was on. The only place where I would be mad if I droped a screw is down an intake port on my car. Now that would suck.
When I drop screws it takes me half an hour to find the damn thing...
