I have a broaken, right at the casing too close to solder, leg SN74194N and I do not have any extras. Can I use a 74LS194? I can get a few at a store about 1/2hr away for $2. Or the only sn74194s's I can find are expensive or come from europe and take weeks to get here. Or is there another option?

No guarantees, but an LS194 will probably work just fine. You could also try a 74HCT or 74ALS if that doesn't work.

According to the Wikipedia article on the 7400 series ICs, the last letter in the naming convention is used differently by different manufacturers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7400-series_integrated_circuits

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's unusual that an Apple II plus has a 74194 on it - I think all the 74194 type parts are LS - check the silk screen.

No change so far.
In my little IC tester, it reports an 74LS51PC as a 74LS 20 or 74LS13.
Are all these the same of is only part of the 51 working that shows as a 20 or 13?

No, they are completely different chips. The LS51 is a Dual 2-Wide 2-Input/ 2-Wide 3-Input AND-OR-INVERT Gate while the LS20 and LS13 are Dual 4-Input NAND Gates (the LS13 having Schmitt trigger inputs). The last two might check the same on your tester, but the LS51 should test completely different. It might also be your tester incorrectly identifying it.
