Okay, well I had gotten a G3 AIO about a month ago and it came with 10.2.8 installed on it. I know the ins and outs of the older Mac OSes like the back of my hand, but I have stayed away from 10 ever since its initial release. I hated it. But since I was kinda forced to use it with this new machine, and because my 6500 (that I am on right now) with OS 9.1 will never receive further updates (like a new browser so this post topic page would load correctly...) I kinda had no choice.
Well things were going along alright, hadn't had too many major problems other than not being able to delete a user account and not being able to fix the screen gama... never the less though, I was learning more about 10 and slowly getting used to it; y'know, trying to accept it as the new "Mac".
Anyway, I had the machine running for a couple days on end, then I shut it off this morning when I woke up to get ready for work. Showered... after I got out of the shower, I remembered something else I wanted to do real quick- turned it on, did what i needed, and shut it off again. Nothing out of the ordinary, it worked fine. NOW, when I just got home, I turned it on...and it just sits there at that grey screen with the darker grey apple logo and the dashes spinning in a circle... I don't hear hard drive activity... i've tried to start up from CDs (namely both norton 6 and 7), and all it does is give me the classic happy Mac for a little bit, then the screen shuts off and the computer restarts. If I let my finger off of "C", it goes back to the screen with the grey Apple logo; if I continue to hold down "C" it goes to the happy Mac then restarts again.
What am I doing wrong? I've been working with the Mac OS since system 6...and no matter how big a crash or detrimental problem that has occurred, the machine has either sprung right back to life when I turn it on again, or is easilly repairable. Now, I use X, doing NOTHING EXTRANNEOUS mind you, and it craps out. It's like the MegaMan series... 1-r&f kicked ass... but the X series blows. What is it about "X"?
Can anyone help me? :/
Okay, well nevermind then.. wtf... The Zip Disk I had left in the drive for about the past 30 shut downs and startups suddenly decides to be the problem. One press of a trusted paper clip, got the disk, and the computer started up fine.
sorry for wasting forum space, but at least I've managed to further cement the fact that OS X is absurd.
Grey g3's are very tempramental, espectaly in X. If I was learning X, I would have chosen a more modern g3 (even an iMac).
