my iMac died

i tried installing osx on my iMac which i just upgraded to 256meg it forze for a few hours then shutdown. it now will boot to the chime of the old os9 but i get no picture. if anyone has some ideas or can help please let me know.

Is the computer an early slot-loading iMac? In which case, you probably fell into the trap of installing OS X without upgrading your firmware first.

Google and you'll find more. Note, however, that the consensus in a lot of cases seems to be that unless your iMac is a model that includes a VGA port you're boned.

I ran into the same kinda trouble when I bought a used "dead" iMac. What model is it exactly? Mine is a slot-load 350MHz BlueBerry. All it needed was a firmware upgrade, and a few OS re-install/upgrades.
