i have just accquired a old atx server case and to be able to keep the G3 mobo from shorting out can i put duct tape on the backside of the mobo or would it be easier just to put a piece of plastic on the back. I have also acquired 10 drives 8 of them being hard drives and the rest a cd-r and a cd-rom what kind of ATX psu should i purchase to be able to power these drives and a G3 mobo with all slots filled?

I would suggest that you go and get Apple's tech docs for the G3 system. You should be able to find out or at least infer its power requirements. Next pull up the data sheets for your drives and you should be able to find there power requirement. Add up the Amperage need by each device for each voltage. This will tell you the minimum size power supply needed.
Also do use stand offs to keep the board from shorting. They don't cost very much and any PC shop should have them.
Google using a pc power supply withe the extra drives. That many would kill a normal ps running the motherboard too. I meant using a second power supply in the tower to run the extra drives!!
you can try running those drives from an external power supply
oh by the way this case that i inherited has the spacer things just not in the right places and you cna only remove them by ripping them out of the case its a fairly spacious case with enough room for at least 7 or 8 hard drives which is what i have the reason for the duct tape question is that i needed someway to insulate the board from the metal however i have decided on using a thick acrylic which i will then drill the wholes for the standoffs into and mount the board on that im still not sure how or where i will mount the second psu needed to power all the hard drives thanks for the comments
