AppleTalk adapter?

I recently acquired an old "AppleTalk Adapter" as quoted to me. I have -never- seen one of them before. What does it do and what can I do with it. (I have a Performa 6200CD, iMac G3 Bondi Blue, and a PowerMac G3 B/W)
