Apple II MP3 player

For those that were at KFest, they got to see my latest project. It is no joke, it is a MP3 player for the apple II. It plays mp3's that are stored on a flash drive (test 2gb and 8gb thus far) using a BASIC program that I wrote up to test the device. The player handles all of the mp3 decoding and storage access so there is no system overhead on the apple II.

I'm working on getting Sheppy to write up a good MP3 player program and drivers and we are looking into using the pen drive to be able to upload programs directly into the apple II. I need to bump up the speed so it can upload programs faster. Here's a picture of the IIe I used at KFest to demo the player:

More updates will follow, I'll see if I can't put something on youtube.

That's just extra patina for future archaeologists to analyze. Smile

I'm so happy for you to have

I'm so happy for you to have gotten that working. I'm just an old kid who used to program hi-res graphics. Nice one dude.

There's more to in the works.

There's more to in the works. I'm working with Sheppy to make it capable to load/store programs on the flash drive. This will be of big use to those who need software moved to their Apple II but can't use Ciderpress.

I have loaded programs from the flash drive onto the Apple II and I'm working on the write function now.

So, this card will not only play MP3's it can be used as a sudo storage device to transfer files.

Merry Christmas????

Like I said at Kfest, I just want to know when!

For those of you that didn't get the opportunity to go to Kfest this year, I thought 'OK, another music card, isn't that cute.' But then Vince started a mp3 from Basic then went back to programing while the song played, I was blown away. Although this was a prototype, I think I was more impressed with it than the much awaited VGA card.
And, the fact that it will be able to transfer files with a USB thumb drive from PC or MAC to the IIGS is just a great bonus.

It sounds like...

Vince,

It sounds like (in one respect) that you may be giving Rich Dreher a run for his money. He with CFFA, You with Memory Sticks.
I kinda figured that someone would come up with a way to use USB for a drive eventually.

Good Show! Smile

Well,

It will be a sudo drive, I'm not going to take this down that path. Rich is working on something new and different!
