Hi, I've acquired a graphite Imac SE 600 which has odd blocks of colour on the menus and windows on display also white squares which move with the mouse pointer. As there is an empty OS X folder I guess that an update has been tried without the firmware update. Currently on OS9.1 I installed the update and reset the PRAM and nothing changed. If I start-up without extensions the display has horizontal dots across the whole screen that display either side of open windows. Has anyone any ideas to solve this problem? - Ta!

My best guess is the graphics chip or (more likely) the VRAM is failing, no cure except to replace the logic board.

Thanks for the reply Is there a way to test the video ram? Also what I failed to mention is that the colour distortion/dots/blocks are not random. They are the same for any repeated action with no variation (accept when I don't load the extensions when the dots turn up instead!).. This suguests to me that this is a software problem or some setting in the NVRam that is wrong. Is there a way to re-install the video drivers or reset the NVRam totaly to factory?
