Anybody know if you can boot a cf card in a 1400cs? Building myself a picture frame and would like to quite it down. So far I've got jpegview starting up and connecting to a folder on my g4 tower thru airport. It's just every now and then the drive go clickety click. Would like to stop that. I thought I saw something like this on the old board but can't seem to find it here. Thanks!

You're probably thinking about the thread detailing the trials and tribulations of getting "Beater" to recognize a 256MB CF card it now boots from into OS9. I think that was the most recent iteration of the recurring 1400 FlashBootDisk theme.

If you have any trouble formatting a CF card for MacOS, here's a trick that I learned in another thread. Turn-off PC Exchange (just temporarily pull that Control Panel from the System Folder.) This will let "Erase Disk" offer more options than just the DOS format one.
Although I've not tried it on a 1400, I run my 190cs from a small CF card and silence is golden.
Just to let folks know, the iomega microdrive is not bootable. The old firmware doesn't know what it is.
Can you use one of those internal cf drives? It should be IDE and the mac would just think it is booting of a CD or maby even a HD!
That's what the microdrive is. I ended up getting a new 256mb cf card. Installed the drivers to get my Orinoco silver card to work and now it mounts a shared file on my tower at bootup and uses that for jpegview. Looks pretty good.
