Fan duct for B&W G3

I'm planning on removing the front speaker and replacing it with a small fan on my B&W G3. In order to direct this new airflow directly onto the heatsink, I'll need a fan duct to direct it there. I've looked online at several PC part stores and I've only found the larger ducts for 80mm fans. Does anyone know where I could find a smaller one?

Use...

Use some piping of some sort. Like a drinking straw, but bigger!

PVC?

Wouldn't pvc piping work? You know, the kind that is used for irragation and such. It comes in a lot of diamiters, and is fairly easy to cut with a hacksaw.

I've seen it done with cardbo

I've seen it done with cardboard and scotch (brand) tape... seems there should be a more elegant way.

yep

I've made those and they work well. Just seal the edges with tape.

Cool G3

OK, I have to ask... Do you Really need to cool your ZIF? Is this mod really going to help? Why not just "plop" a BIG old CPU fan on the heatsink and save your self some labor?

Just a question to save you some time...

Cheers

maybe...

Actually, my G3 does run quite fine with no heat problems, but I wanted to do something with it.

I did have a fan on it's heatsink, at one time, but it made some horrible noises. So, I took it off. I don't really have any other fans that will fit on there without causing problems closing the case.

As for my progress, I did manage to cut into the speaker assembly and get a fan to fit in it. That way, I don't have to tape it up there. Right now the flow is undirected. It doesn't seem to affect the temperature much, but isn't a very powerful fan anyway.
