Alu G4 screen (white clouds) possible fix ?

Hello I,m a newbie here and have a question on this 1.25ghz 15"

After pulling the top cover off I noticed foam cushions pressing on the screen in basically the same locations that create the white cloudy areas. Pulling the foam off doesn't change anything on screen now. (Samsung LCD)

If you can help me
It's obvious to me that Apple designed it too close and since this is a used notebook I'm not going to get it fixed anyway by them for my price and their mistake.

And 2nd
I noticed an Ebay seller advertizing he can fix this white area for 49$

The Question?
How can this be done or have any of you guys done this?

Appreciate any clues on this possible fix

Regards
David

Not helpful, but...

I just have to note that I'm sort of surprised you stumbled across a machine with that problem. Apple had a "repair extension program" (read "recall") for those machines. It should of been fixed for free by the original owner. Every single first generation Aluminum Powerbook my company bought came down with the problem and had to go back for it.

Unfortunately the program's expired now. It was limited to three years after the manufacture date of the systems in question. And if you've opened the display housing it's pretty unlikely you'll be able to sweet talk them into doing it anyway.

As to what the eBay guy is doing, can't comment. Apple fixed it by swapping the panel and stiffening the lid so it wouldn't wreck the new one.

There are actually a fair num

There are actually a fair number of these macines out there. I can think of at least five off the top of my head at work with the problem - that the end user just couldn't have been bothered to deal with - as they couldn't afford to be without their laptop.

I did hear Apple took care of

I did hear Apple took care of this and realized I won't be one of them.

The screen works perfectly fine except for this issue.

At least somone knows how to fix this for 49$. This means it's probably a fairly easy fix.

Anyone care to speculate on how they might do it? They won't say, BTW
