I have an apple bluetooth keyboard that some of the keys don't work. item has never been messed around with, just stopped working. no spills, no nothing has happened. I want to know if the keyboard is still in warranty, and how can I get it fixed? or rather, replaced?
The keyboard comes up under bluetooth, but a line of keys on the board, including the spacebar, the "L, O, and 9" keys don't work, and neither do a small row on the numpad.
I want to know how I can look this up to see if the warranty still applies? I don't remember when it was bought, but I thought it was within the last year.
they said I would have to pay them just to have them look at the warranty status of the keyboard. I hardly think that that is fair...
Call a local Apple Authorized repair place. Their tech will be able to check if it's still in warranty and tell you what your options are if it is. They'll need the serial number, so have it ready.
I'd guess it's a scratch in the traces.
All of Apple's serial numbers follow a standard form - the first two alpha characters indicate the factory, the third character (numeric) is the year it was made, and the fourth and fifth indicate the week it was made in said year (ex. 05 for fifth week). If your serial number on the keyboard indicates a build date prior to 2006, it's definitely out of warranty.
Also - do you have applecare or a mac that is presently under warranty? If so, the bluetooth keyboard is covered under said warranty by umbrella. (airport cards, mice, power adapters, displays, and airport base stations are covered in this way as well)
if what you said is correct, it was made in '04? did they have bluetooth keyboards at that time?
I guess since it's not in warranty, anyone wanny buy it? I am guessing that a line in the ribbon from the keyboard to the controller is broken
parts anyone?
PM your serial number to me and I'll check it for warranty/Applecare status.
Apple released the bluetooth keyboards and mice some time in 2003 if memory serves me correctly. Here's the press release http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2003/sep/16keyboardmouse.html .
If your iBook G4 is less than three years old and has applecare on it, file the warranty claim for the keyboard under that machine's serial number.
was made in early 2004, but there is no applecare anymore.
Oh well, it's just good for parts now
I will see if I can sell it. Either that, or does someone have a keyboard they can pull the contact thing out of it and ship me that?
