So I recently tried to upgrade my iMac's hard drive. I checked for compatability at macworld, bought a 40GB HD, followed the directions and installed it. WHile doing this, one of my RAM slots was broken, horribly dangling askew, with bent pins all over the place. I put the remaining working RAM in the top slot, and reassembled. When I power up, I get a beeping noise and flashing led light. My question is; did I mess up the logic board or whatever when I broke the RAM slot, or is my drive incompatable/improperly installed?

Are any of the bent pins touching each other? That may cause a problem. If the slot is broken, but the pins are not touching, there is probably something else wrong. What setting did you use on the drive? IIRC, iMacs like to have the "cable select" or CS setting.
Beeping usually means a RAM issue.
A HD will simply not mount.
The daughter card for those machines are inexpensive.
Don't loose any sleep over it.

yeah the pins are definitely touching, itried to sort of smash it back down so it didnt hang up on anything. oops. so my new question is; How hard is it to replace the logic board, and WTF is a daughter card? is that easier to replace than the whole LoBo?
The Daughter card is the small 3"x4" card that the RAM slots and the processor are mounted. ( Easy to remove/replace ).
The Motherboard or Logicboard is the large circitboard which the smaller Daughtercard
installs or seats onto. ( Not nearly as easy to remove/replace, many more screws and connections)
