AFAIK they were all photoshopped

They're posted in the v(irtual)Hacks section by the maniacal muse of the 68kMLA, of course they're all photoshopped! I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that every line of forum code involved in that section owes its existence to her programming talents as well.
AFAIK, every bit and piece IS legit in every detail, but the technical mastery, conceptual creativity and artistic virtuosity of the transmutation is on such a level as to appear magical to mere mortals.
