I was trying to do some schoolwork in the gym, when these girls, who have been aiming for me and my friend all semester, managed to chuck a ball at my friend and i. It missed our heads, and well...
THEY MURDERED MY PISMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ball hit the back of the screen just the right way to turn it rainbow!!
yeah, that hurts. My dog murdered the screen of my last pismo. I hope you can find a new screen for it fairly cheap. When mine got murdered, iirc, it cost onlt $50USD to get a new screen. I hope you get it soon too
While it's never happened to me, I feel your pain. Lord knows I used to see it a lot at my old job. Onsite Apple tech at a one to one initiative school district where every kid is issued an iBook G4 grumble grumble. Needless to say, I have a collection of photos of the different cracked lcd's. Some were pretty artistic in the level of damage. Needless to say, I am glad to not have to deal with it on a daily basis anymore.
Sure, there's the odd researcher who accidentally drops their powerbook and cracks their lcd. They're normally too ashamed to bring it before me though.
It's amazing the amount of punishment an lcd panel can take. Those 12" panels in the iBooks are pretty tough buggers - the hinge normally breaks before the panel does.
yea,it does, but in a way,it saved my (and my friend's) life. The ball was comming soo fast, that it would have caused serious injury. It took one for the team! I have to get it fixed! Would anybody care to donate? lol
They broke your PowerBook. They are responsible for its repair or replacement. If they won't pay up, take it up with the school administration or gym management. Or their parents. Or small claims court.
They don't have to like you, and you're not required to like them either. But they need to own up to their responsibility.
And so does the OP. I mean, come on, taking your PowerBook to the gym? Should have thought ahead a little before taking something breakable and valuabe to you into an environment where flying objects are common.
I disagree. While it is common sense to keep a PowerBook out of harm's way, the assailants went out of their way to hurl the ball at gobabushka. I'm thinking the only way the destruction could have happened is if someone deliberately fired in the 'Book's direction. Heck, all portables are vulnerable wherever you take them - it could have gotten knocked to the floor and broken in study hall by someone simply brushing by your desk.
It's like driving through an intersection and getting hit by the a-hole running the red light. Sure, you could have avoided the crash by just staying home in bed . . . Ya just takes yer chances when you go out there, right?
Still, tough cr@p, I think you've got no realistic legal recourse here. Your only hope is to somehow motivate the perps to voluntarily pony up some sort of recompense. Maybe not for the entire value, but perhaps for some of it.

gobabushka,
I would like you to have my Lombard G3 PowerBook.
Judging from your signature tag you need it more than me. It was my laptop for quite awhile now but a macbook is on the way for me soon.
The powerbook works great, but the battery's dead and the cd-rom drive is missing its' bezel. Our laptops have compatible batteries and CD-Rom bays so you could use yours.
Yeah. I've dealt with nonsense like that at school. I was a target for that A LOT. Kind of Sucked.
Keep your head up, we've got your back!

the LCDs in the pismos and lomabards happen to be interchangable too.
Good point
gobabushka, if you're feeling advendurous I see a hybrid Pismo / Lombard in your future
