Mac virtual Machine

I am looking for a good virtual machine for mac osx. Mac-on-Mac was never finished. Any help for a poor mac user?

Suggestions

I was checking Emulation.Net's Mac section (http://emulation.victoly.com/macintosh/) and it mentions three:

SheepShaver (uses processor instead of emulation)
Basilisk II (emulates 68k mac)
Mac-On-Mac (does not work with 10.4)

I haven't tried any of them recently, so I don't know how well they work.

SheepShaver

I recently used SheepShaver on my G4 Powerbook to set up a 9.0.4 disk image to be used on an Arch Deluxe Pro and it works relatively well within its limitations. (It's pretty fast when using native CPU, anyway.) Of course, it doesn't really qualify as a "virtual machine".

If your goal is to simultaniously run multiple OS X sessions for some sort of training-lab environment and you're willing to dedicate the host machine to the task then you could of course install Linux as a host OS for Mac-On-Linux. One of the neater funtions supported by MOL is the ability to map the console of the Mac VM to a VNC session, so in theory you could install Linux on a (preferably fast) G4 Tower with scads of RAM and have it pretend to be several MacOS machines on seperate terminals.

If you look around, there are

If you look around, there are versions of parted that can resize an HFS+ partition without destroying the data. Be sure to turn off Jounalling first if it's an OS X volume. Wink
