I have an iBook 500 Dual USB running OS X 10.4.6, and I'm wondering if it is possible to replace it's CD-ROM drive with a combo drive? Do I have to add a DVD decoder card or anything of the like or will it just work when I hook it up?

Could I even add a Super Drive? And does the drive have to come off a G3 or can I use a G4's drive?
Yeah, sure go ahead and throw in a combo, the thing should already be able to play the DVDs and write CDs
Superdrive is another thing. I have no idea what the minimum reqs for burning a DVD on a mac is. The system has to be able to keep up with it
It shouldn't matter...

So I could use a Combo Drive from a Powerbook Ti in an iBook G3 Dual USB? The connectors are the same?
but the early TiBooks used a special drive. You might have to use a later drive.
